Dr. Jane McGonigal Arguement

Dr. McGonigal's argument about video games can change the world was a very good argument. The way she wrote her argument was in a very strong way. She started off by stating that she was a gamer and game designer, which is kind of interesting that she is given such a powerful speech, considering since many people think that gamers can't really do much, but I think that what she did changed that way of thinking. She supported her argument by expressing the cooperation that happens in the gaming world. If people cooperated the same way in games as they did in real life, we would get things done. She also expressed the term "epic win" which she explained as the feeling that you achieved the greatest accomplishment. In order to strenghten her argument she used four key terms that she felt really conveyed what she met. She used Urgent Optimism, Social Fabric, Blissful Publicity, and Epic Meaning, and gave examples of each which really strengthened her argument. I agree with Dr. McGonigals's argument because she is right about everything she talked about in her speech. Every example she gave makes perfect sense and I agree with all of them.

In Kent Haruf's article on writing, Kent informs us on how he and many other famous authors write, all them being bizarre ways. The author supports this claim by stating facts about how he works in a coal room in his basement in the dark, and how others work in with a sock over there head. The authors purpose for writing this is to explain that when you write fiction, you are making everything up, and since you have to power to make things up, why would you make them ordinary, he is saying this in order to help writers to understand that you have this power to create, so you should take it with freedom. This article was written mostly to writers, but it was written for everyone to read so that everyone can see how famous writers write such amazing stories.

In chapter one of the book Choices, the author claims that the writing process is very important to writing and will help many people if you follow the steps. The author supports this by comparing the scientific method to the writing process stating that scientists follow these certain steps throughout experiments to figure out what works and what doesn't work, the same works with writing. The authors purpose is to show the importance of the writing process and how it will help you in your writing. This chapter was written for students to find the importance in the writing process and to use it and then they will have less troubles when they write.

In the introduction to the book Choices, the author argues that even though it may seem that people have talent in a certain area, doesn't mean that they don't try very hard, especially in writing. The author supports this because throughout the chapter he talked about how many writers are constantly working very hard at their writing and always have others read the publication before releasing the final product. The author's purpose is to convince students that writing is a skill that everyone can learn and to not be discouraged when you don't succeed at it right away, and to keep trying and trying until you feel comfortable. This introduction is written for students so that they will no longer feel discouraged when they write and then they will keep trying to become better.

Who is Cody Martinez? Well, Cody Martinez is a student at Colorado State University - Pueblo studying Mass Communications, in the future I want to attend Colorado State University - Boulder to study films. My dreams for the future is to become a video producer for major motion pictures. I have been in love with video making since the 8th grade and throughout high school I made videos for almost everything, ranging from pep rally videos to Annual Staff commercials. I also like to take pictures and edit them with various programs, and I like designing pages for magazines or yearbooks. I am also a competitive swimmer. I started swimming two years ago and started off terribly, but I eventually got better and now I love swimming.
